How to Identify an Electrician Scam?

Scams aren't new in any industry. For a long time, people have tried to bilk homeowners of cash. And during the middle of summer, fraud is at its most aggressive! A myriad of unscrupulous individuals emerges from the shadows making false statements regarding lighting, electrical, and other work for which they don't intend on actually performing.

How to Spot an Electrical SCAM

The best way to protect yourself from fraud is to be aware of the formulas they use. There are a limited number of methods to deal with an individual and as many methods to betray them. It's all about knowing the way they play and knowing the indicators.

  • Scare tactics. These scams are based on placing as much pressure on you as is possible and forcing you to take rash choices before having enough time to think. The most common method of scare tactics is via phone, but they are more frequently found in door-to-door scenarios. Don't make a decision on contract work right now. Communication and clarity are crucial, and proper firms don't practice the door-to-door thing.

  • "Upfront" payment scams. Some scammers are very clever and make sure they appear as professional. What's the difference? The majority of businesses require upfront payment and may ask for credit card details via phone or in cash when they're in person. The full upfront payment is extremely rare in an actual company. In fact, nobody actually does it.

  • E-mail scams. Do you receive the e-mail of your provider or company you've worked within the past and is demanding immediate payment? Check the spelling with care. There's a chance that you've received an incorrectly addressed letter or number inside the mail. If a legitimate business requires your attention you need to know, they'll notify you via appropriate mail or via the phone!

Telltale Signs of Scammers

It's difficult to tell them apart just by their appearance, but many of them have the same imperfections.

  • Scammers do not have the proper credentials. Make sure that the electrician you work with is certified and licensed. Also, ensure that they're certified and licensed in the state they plan to work in! If the electrician you hire isn't licensed for work within Canada, it isn't possible to be employed in Canada.

  • Scammers are trying too hard. Have you ever met individuals who seem overly friendly? It's usually a sign that they're either not genuine or are hiding something. Scammers frequently do this. They're in a hurry, are trying to convince you to sign the deal, or to pay money before being caught. This reality often causes them to play to appear convincing!
