It is normal to expect that your home's wiring will work perfectly at all times. However, it is not always true, and wiring issues can be scary.
You may have a buzzing sound coming out of your circuit breaker. The buzzing sound is probably annoying, and you may have heard it before. Unresolved circuit breaker buzzing can lead to serious injury. Here are some reasons you might hear a buzzing noise and how to stop it.
CIRCUIT BREAKER BUZZING REASONS
- Normal vibrations: It is normal to hear a hum or buzz, but it is not audible. If you pay close attention, vibrations can be heard coming from the panel as energy moves in and out at a rapid speed. You may have a problem if you hear the buzzing more than usual.
- Failure to trip: A bad circuit causes the current to flow through the wire, and it fails to trip. This is what you might hear if the circuit breaker buzzes when the hair dryer, air conditioner, or other electricity-consuming device turns on. A bad circuit can cause overheating, which could be dangerous.
- It is possible for a wire to be loosely connected: Sparks may be revealed by opening the panel. To determine which circuit is faulty, turn all circuits off and then turn them back on until you hear the buzzing sound.
