Electricians will be covering safety topics on a frequent basis. This is why? Because electricity is volatile by nature. Sure, we've harnessed electricity. It is possible to misuse it in any degree. This can cause dangers, fires that could result in property loss, and even fatalities. Unfortunately, misuse like the one we are referring to is quite common. We would love to discuss it with you today. Ungrounded electrical outlets are one example of a very common problem.
You have probably seen many ungrounded outlets but not really thought about it. If you have a standard home with safe outlets, there will be a "three prong configuration." The first two are shorter openings that run up and then down. The third is a nearly circular shape that runs under the top two. Because it's the small one at bottom that makes the outlet "grounded", it's important.
If something were to go wrong at that outlet, like a transient or overloaded charge, the grounded wire on the appliance would send it "to ground" or into its grounding wire. This is all it takes to send the charge away.
In the event of an Unrounded outlet, A "two prong" configuration means that a grounding wire is absent. An overload would have no place to go except where it can follow the closest current. This could be either the appliance itself, a nearby object (your hand) or into your home's atmosphere, which can cause a fire.
Ungrounded outlets were popular up until the middle of the 1960s. They could be found in just about any home. However, they weren't designed to handle the growing electrical needs homeowners. These outlets were dangerous and posed a danger, so they were eliminated in favor of standard grounded outlets. Ungrounded outlets, in case you were curious, not up to code.
It's very simple from the point of view of an electrician provided your wiring is in good order. Because it involves direct contact with potentially dangerous wiring it is best to hire an electrician. But the project can be completed in a short time and usually doesn't cost too much.
